Chartered Institute of Personnel Development

People are at the heart of every business and organisation.

If you are happy, safe, valued and well-motivated at work, it’s good for the organisation that employs you, for the economy and for society as a whole.

That’s why working in people management can be such a rewarding career. You have a real chance to drive positive change in working life.

The Chartered Institute of Personnel Development (CIPD) is the professional body for those who work in people management and in learning and development (L&D). It’s a not-for-profit organisation that was founded in 1913 and still sets standards across the world in the people management sector.

Why choose a CIPD qualification?

More than 20,000 people take a CIPD qualification every year. That’s because CIPD qualifications are recognised worldwide as a benchmark for professional standards across the sector.

The reputation of the CIPD means that you are boosting your credibility and sending a powerful message to recruiters and employers when you have CIPD membership and CIPD qualifications on your CV.

Many employers ask for a CIPD qualification as a minimum requirement when they advertise jobs. That means it’s essential if you want to develop your career and achieve responsibility and reward.

You’ll be studying up-to-date theory and best practice when you embark on a CIPD qualification. It will demonstrate your commitment to your professional development.

What CIPD qualifications are available?

The CIPD team is constantly studying every aspect of the ever-changing world of work. In 2021, its qualifications evolved to align with what people and organisations need.

There are five qualifications, across three levels, to choose from:

Foundation Level

There’s just one qualification at foundation level and it covers both people management and L&D:

  • CIPD Level 3 Foundation Certificate in People Practice.
